Kitsap Community Foundation Announces Availability of Scholarships
The Kitsap Community Foundation, in conjunction with three scholarship funds, announces the commencement of the 2010 Scholarship Application process.
Applications must be returned not later than April 15, 2010. For specific information regarding the Charles and Dorothy Martell Family Music Scholarship, or the Fred and Marvel Hill Scholarship listed below, please refer to the specific scholarship description. Requests for applications can be made directly to foundation, or at the appropriate school scholarship office.
The Charles and Dorothy Martell Family Music Scholarship is given from a Fund established by the Martell children. The scholarship will go to a Kitsap County graduating high school student and may support payment for tuition or costs of educational supplies. Strong consideration will be given to participants of the Kitsap Youth Symphony, students wishing to continue music or music education. A demonstrated strength of musical interest and ability, personal character, and citizenship are required.

The Fred and Marvel Hill Scholarship was established by the Hills and continues to be supported by their children. An applicant must be a graduating senior from the North Kitsap School District, and accepted by an accredited college, university, or trade or vocational school.

The Marie A. Barker Teaching Scholarship is given from a Fund established by family, friends, and former pupils of Marie A. Barker. The Barker Family would like the recipient to achieve the important goal of a college degree leading to a career in teaching. The scholarship will be granted on the basis of merit and need to a student who has been accepted into Western Washington University Woodring School of Education program. Specific requirements are available at the Western Washington University offices, located on the Bremerton campus of Olympic College, or on the Kitsap Community Foundation website.

2009 Celebration of Philanthropy Fetes Nancy and Jerry Reid, U.S.S. John C. Stennis, and Mike James
A celebration of local philanthropy will take place on Wednesday when the Kitsap Community Foundation (KCF) recognizes individuals and organizations who have exceeded the accepted bounds of generosity. The Celebration will both bestow honors on specific recipients and pay tribute to the spirit that compels people to donate their time and financial resources.

For Good, For Ever
The Kitsap Community Foundation is building endowments that will give forever to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Kitsap County. Today, the Kitsap Community Foundation has 50 community funds including several fields of interest in health, education, environment, social service, youth, and the arts.
Since 1999, we have awarded nearly $500,000 in grants to improve the quality of life locally. This year, we gave nearly $120,000 in grants for programs and projects benefiting the Kitsap County community.
We are excited about the coming year and look forward to continuing to meet the growing needs of Kitsap County; today, tomorrow and for generations to come.
