Local Agencies Receive Grant Awards
Forty-two applications. Five weeks of intense review and research. The outcome: seventeen local organizations received program and/or project grants totaling nearly $40,000 during the Kitsap Community Foundation Grant Awards Event on Thursday, May 29, 2008, at the Norm Dicks Government Center.

This is the ninth year that the Kitsap Community Foundation has made grants to support community needs - culminating in distributions of more than $500,000 since the organization was established.

Local organizations are invited once a year to submit applications for this quite competitive cycle. Entries then are reviewed by a Grant Review Committee of community volunteers: Ruth Bernstein, Claudia Fogle, Sasha Mangahas, Eileen and Monty Montgomery, Carmen Pinto, Sue Shipley, and Rob Woutat.

"I wish the Kitsap Community Foundation could fund more of these worthy organizations - it really is a tough process each year," said Dorothea Lintz, this year's Review Committee Chair, Board member, and Treasurer of KCF. "There is such a high caliber of work being done by so many diverse agencies, a substantial number of which have extremely limited resources. We enjoy showcasing the grantee agencies by asking them to accept their awards in person."

The Grant Review Committee presented checks on behalf of the following Funds at the Foundation: the G. Elizabeth and Don M. Drury Charitable Fund, the Anne Y. Petter Family Advised Fund, The Fred "Bunker" Hill Fund, the Brian Montgomery Fund, the EHL Insurance Endowment Funds, the Howe Farm Fund, Tom and Marcia Kilbane, and the Kitsap Community Foundation's Community Fund.

"After the Committee's initial review, we had so many deserving applicants, but not nearly enough funds to go around. Then, some generous donors stepped up to enhance the funding. We weren't able to fund every program, but I think this will make a significant impact," said Rob Schneidler, Foundation Executive Director.

In addition to these grants, the Foundation has this year distributed an additional 24 grants totaling $73,141.20 from Advised Funds to support non-profit organizations.
