Kitsap Community Foundation Welcomes New Board Members
Change Comes With New Fiscal Year

(Silverdale, WA) The Kitsap Community Foundation welcomed its new Board Members at its recently-held annual planning retreat:

  • Ruth Bernstein, Community Volunteer
  • Michael Felts, Chief Executive Officer, The Suquamish Foundation
  • R. A. 'Monty' Montgomery, Community Volunteer and Retired Boeing Systems Analyst
  • Betti Sheldon, Community Volunteer and past Washington State Senator

They join the current members:

  • President, Tom Kilbane, Community Volunteer and Retired Advertising/Sales Executive
  • Vice President, Brant Greene, CFP, CRPC, Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc.
  • Secretary, Don Poggi, Community Volunteer and Retired CEO/Owner, Seattle Limb Systems
  • Treasurer, Dot Lintz, Community Volunteer and Retired Nonprofit Executive and Financial Analyst
  • Patty Lent, Community Volunteer and past Kitsap County Commissioner

Local Agencies Receive Grant Awards
Forty-two applications. Five weeks of intense review and research. The outcome: seventeen local organizations received program and/or project grants totaling nearly $40,000 during the Kitsap Community Foundation Grant Awards Event on Thursday, May 29, 2008, at the Norm Dicks Government Center.

This is the ninth year that the Kitsap Community Foundation has made grants to support community needs - culminating in distributions of more than $500,000 since the organization was established.

2008 Scholarship Award Winners Announced
Each year, the Scholarship Review Committee (this year Ruth Bernstein and Rob Woutat) and Scholarship Fund Donor Advisors have the pleasure of reviewing applications from local high schools for college scholarships. This year's recipients were:

Christina Beahm, South Kitsap High School, receives the Marie A. Barker Teaching Scholarship. Christina will attend Washington State University and pursue a career in Elementary School Music Education.

Tyler Seth, North Kitsap High School, receives the Fred and Marvel Hill Scholarship. Tyler will attend Gonzaga University and pursue a degree in Business Communications or Sports Management.

Jordan Matthew Batschi, Central Kitsap High School, receives a Charles and Dorothy Martell Family Music Scholarship. Jordan will attend Brigham Young University (Utah) and pursue a major in Astrophysics and a minor in Music.

Tiffany J. Maib, King's West School, receives a Charles and Dorothy Martell Family Music Scholarship. Tiffany will attend Northwest University in Kirkland and pursue a career as a writer/author and graphic artist.

Sharing A Commitment
For Good, For Ever

The Kitsap Community Foundation is building endowments that will give forever to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Kitsap County. Today, the Kitsap Community Foundation has 50 community funds including several fields of interest in health, education, environment, social service, youth, and the arts.

Since 1999, we have awarded nearly $500,000 in grants to improve the quality of life locally. This year, we gave nearly $120,000 in grants for programs and projects benefiting the Kitsap County community.

We are excited about the coming year and look forward to continuing to meet the growing needs of Kitsap County; today, tomorrow and for generations to come.

KCF Receives Recognition for Meeting Rigorous National Standards for Quality and Accountability

Kitsap Community Foundation was recently notified that it has met the nation’s highest philanthropic standards for operational quality, integrity and accountability. The notice comes from the Council on Foundations, a national professional association based in Washington, D.C. “This is similar to the Good Housekeeping Seal for community foundations,” said Steve Gunderson, Council on Foundations president and chief executive officer. “It says the Kitsap Community Foundation has demonstrated a commitment to operational quality, integrity and accountability.”
